The date: February 25, 2006. 20 years after the historic gathering of people, from all walks of life, exercising their freedom of expression on a government that has outlives its credibility as the voice of the population in a country, and ultimately succeeded in making history. The largest group of people, so inspired many nations experiencing a similar fate, that it was marked as a glorious day for the advocates of democracy, freedom, and willpower.
Today is the day I finally walked out of my dorm, and into my home in the provinces, for this same day marked something... important, for a lack of a better term... though a turn for the worst. The third time the aggregation of people mobilized to topple a government they deem unfit to rule over its citizens. Something similar to a score (20 years) ago, but with a twist. They want to unseat a leader who they perceive as a cheater of the public's trust in running the nation. Now, they are seeking means to accomplish that objective, by any means necessary. Even resorting to rallies and protest would be an option.
And now, here they are, along the pathway to EDSA, the site of the first, and original I might add, People Power Movement. Unlike the first, which is untainted with political ambitions, this one has nothing... sincere to fight for. It only aims to remove the incumbent President from office, without due consideration as to who will take her place. The opposition propose a parliamentary form of government.1 Again this is still being considered, if you look at the present state of politics here in the country. Graft and corruption remain unquashed, and now news of drug abuse are fronted in the form of "established supermarkets".2 Sad this is the case.
As a citizen of the country, I am aware of these present conditions. However, what I can do, and will propose, is limited by the fact that right now, I am but a small voice in a multitude of human beings yearning for change in our society and our country. Therefore, I can only state possible solutions to the problems plaguing the country, for they are only deliberations, and an unsure plan of action.
Of course, suggestions from my fellow countrymen (and anyone who's reading this right now) are welcome.
1 I believe the President herself is considering this proposal.
